Beartooth Basin Ski Area is located on the Beartooth Highway (US 212) just south of the Montana/Wyoming border. The Montana side of the highway usually opens by Memorial Day.
Red Lodge is the closest town to Beartooth Basin Ski Area. From Red Lodge it is a 25 mile drive and close to a 6,000 ft gain in elevation to reach the ski area. The town of Red Lodge is small but has many bars, restaurants, and accommodations.

There are virtually limitless camping options and several Forest Service campgrounds located inbetween Red Lodge and Beartooth Pass. Although rare, it is possible to get snow in June. A little snow in camp can mean a lot of snow on the pass. The most popular camping is off FS road 421, Glacier Lake rd., and that is on the Red Lodge side of the Pass.
